The Tirupati startup scene will see a new technology accelerator coming up next month. The accelerator is being formed by the Andhra Pradesh government, in collaboration with IC2 Institute of The University of Texas and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI).
While the government is hopeful that the technology coming in through the Tirupati accelerator will cater to overcoming some important challenges like waste management, agriculture technology, cybersecurity and water management that the state is currently facing, the bigger problem it is hoping to solve is the elevating unemployment situation at hand.
Glenn Robinson, who will be the director of the accelerator, will be moving from Austin, Texas to Tirupati to head the program. According to a statement given by him, the accelerator will be creating more jobs by encouraging innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
Every since the program was announced, the applications have been just been pouring in. After all the applications are locked in, the next step would entail shortlisting 33 technology startups that would then be enrolled into a four-month long session. The number would then be reduced to 8, then to the final 4 who would get an opportunity to receive further mentorship on how to approach investors.
Robinson in a statement to a national economy daily reveals that they're also working on scouting for possible synergies with accelerators and incubators across the entire country, which includes the T-Hub incubator in Hyderabad backed by the Telangana government.
What is interesting is that the program also plans on having an annex office in Austin, Texas, so that a few selected startups could go there and explore their opportunities in the international markets.
