Mumbai Startup Culture Machine In Talks To Raise $10M

According to some sources, Culture Machine Media Pvt. Ltd is in the midst of talks of raising a whopping $10 million from Tiger Global in its Series B funding round. The Singapore and Mumbai based startup specializes in creating digital video programmes. Zodius Capital, the startup's existing investor, is also said to be participating in the funding round.

Founded in 2013, the startup had raised $3.5 million just six months ago from Zodius Capital in its Series A funding round. The startup had used the money raised in increasing its presence in the international markets as well as level up its engineering efforts.

Founded by Venkat Prasad, a former product manager at YouTube and Sameer Pitalwalla, a former director at Walt Disney India, Culture Machine Media specializes in optimizing a client’s analog and digital presence in order to grow his/her YouTube Channel reach via a unique collaboration between the creators and their fans. They help their clients in creating, executing and delivering content by selecting a programming strategy most suitable for their audience.

As of September 2014, the company had 40 million monthly views and over eighty million minutes of content consumed. About 55-60 percent of this content consumption was happening through mobile phones.

The Mumbai and Singapore based startup’s network includes some big names from the media including The Times of India, Germany’s CMajor, the American comedy network, Comedy Time, Bombay Times, Earth Three Media from Norway and Fox Star Studios.

The company’s network helps creators across lifestyle, comedy, kids, fashion and music in growing their channel and create video programming using the company’s production facilities in Chennai and Mumbai.

The startup’s board of advisors includes some esteemed names from the tech world including Nickhil Jakatdar, chief Executive officer VuClip, Shishir Mehrotra, former vice product at YouTube/video at Google and Dean Gilbert, former vice president and global head of content operations at YouTube.

The startup currently has a staff of 65 employees across its offices in Singapore, California and Mumabi.

Tiger Global fund is one of the largest investors in Indian Technology startups. It has investments in Olacabs, LimeRoad, Grey Orange, Just Dial, CarTrade, PolicyBazaar, Commonfloor, Flipkart, Caratlane, Hike, FreshDesk, Zovi and Babyoye.
