Six entrepreneurs from Startup Village, Kalamassery are all set to make India proud in Canada this month. These six entrepreneurs are a part of a team from the startup, Flip Technologies which has recently won global acclaim for "The Smart Riser", a smartphone application that improves the skills of skateboarders.
"The Smart Riser" was recently ranked among the top 5 in the Next Big Idea Contest 2014. The contest was organized jointly by the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute; Government of Ontario, Canada; Ryerson Futures Inc. and IBM Global. As a reward of being ranked among the top 5, the startup won an all expenses paid trip to Toronto, Canada to interact with innovation experts, mentors and investors.
The Smart Riser application was recently rated as one of the most interesting products by Intel, which is all set to provide its latest Edison board to students for development support and prototyping.
Flip Technologies was co-founded by Jibin Jose and Abimanyu Nair in January 2014. The startup is focused on developing cutting edge Internet of Things (IoT) devices and tracking devices for action sports.
The six member team from Flip Technologies includes Abimanyu Nair, Jibin Jose, Rohith Samuel, Abraham Alexander, Jishnu Vijayan and Balagovind Girish. These all six are all set to attend a two week long bespoke programme at the Toronto’s Discovery district.
According to Abimanyu Nair, co-founder, Flip Technologies, "The app can determine the trick to be performed and help skateboarders improve their skills. It is like a personalized trainer".
While the co-founders Abimanyu and Jibin are pass outs from Toc-H Institute of Science and Technology, the rest four are still pursuing different courses from the same institute. Jibin Jose was also one of the 5 students from Startup Village who got an opportunity to go to the Silicon Valley as a part of the SV Square programme.
Smart Riser, the app, has been especially designed for skateboarders so as to enhance their ability to analyze and perform tricks, irrespective of the fact whether he or she is an amateur or professional. The Smart Riser device works by connecting to the truck of the skateboard. After it is connected, it tracks the dynamics of the board while the data is sent to a Smartphone application via Bluetooth.
