SanDisk has just released the world's first ever 128GB microSD card and of highest capacity till date, in India. The capacity of this SD card is more than any smartphone's internal memory.
A 32 GB Sandisk micro SD card is available on Flipkart at price of Rs.1399 however, this micro SD card of 128 GB will be available in India for price tag of Rs.9,999 which is almost whooping 10K.
It has a read speed of 30MB/s and is water-proof, temperature-proof, magnet-proof and shockproof. It also comes with an adaptor to full-sized SD if you want to switch it between your phone and a laptop or digital camera.
As the capacity of this card is larger than the smartphone itself, the only smartphones available in market that have this capacity of memory are only few such as - iPhone 5S, HTC One M8 and Samsung S5. Apart from memory capacity the Sandisk 128 GB micro SD card is also double in speed in comparison to other micro SD cards.
The card supports SDXC, which means that it should be compatible with most modern phones with microSD slots but unfortunately for many, one of major drawback of this SD card is - even if your phone allows for microSD card slots, not every phone support the massive 128GB of storage on the tiny compact card. You have to probably own iPhone 5S, HTC One M8 or Samsung S5 smartphones only otherwise you may end up wasting you almost Rs.10K of money.
Although Sandisk has already launched this 128 GB Sd card earlier in Mobile World Congress, in Barcelona, in february this year however the company has decided to launch it in India now.
To produce this 128GB microSD card, SanDisk developed a proprietary technique to stack 16 memory dies vertically, each is shaved to be thinner than a strand of hair, before being stacked.
