Cooltok, a Bangalore-based start-up that has built a mobile phone messaging application has been acquired by US based company Kirusa, said to be one of the leading Mobile Social Media and Value Added Service providers in the world. The amount of transaction for acquisition is undisclosed.

The company behind Cooltok is PlusRay Innovations Pvt. Ltd, which announced on its website homepage that Kirusa has acquired all the technology, workforce, and intellectual property of Cooltok.

The Cooltok team, based in Bangalore, and led by Founder and CEO, Sreenivas Karanam, has extensively worked on mobile messaging apps for smartphone platforms, and shares Kirusa’s vision for a mobile connected world. The Cooltok team, including the CEO, and co-founders Prakash Kaja and Thomas Mathew, will join Kirusa’s office in Bangalore.

Cooltok currently is a android based app which you can download and install in your mobile phone and start connecting and be in touch with your friends and family. It provides features like messaging , chat and group chat. You can share pics and files from gallery as well as share the location information. With Cooltok mobile messaging app one can talk to friends and family with HD quality sound and chat as well, on any data network like LTE/WiFi/3G and 2.5G (GPRS).

The company was founded in April 2012 by its founders - Karanam, Prakash Kaja and Thomas Mathew.

Speaking about the acquisition, Inderpal Singh Mumick, CEO, Kirusa, says, "The technology developed by Cooltok’s team, as well as their knowledge and experience, will be invaluable in delivering the third wave of messaging apps that look to combine the benefits of the carrier services with the benefits of the OTT services. Kirusa is expanding globally and we will continue to make use of opportunities for partnerships and acquisitions that will help us realize our vision of providing seamless messaging and social media experience to all mobile users, regardless of their devices, and their mobile network."

Kirusa is headquartered in New Jersey, and it has offices in Delhi, Bangalore, and Lagos. Kirusa invented Voice SMS, and has filed more than 25 patent applications covering a broad array of multimodal and Voice SMS technologies.
