CIE, the academic incubator at International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIIT-Hyderabad) has launched Ojas MedTech Bio-NEST to nurture startups building technology-enabled healthcare solutions.

Ojas, which has already on-boarded 8 startups, will incubate research-leveraged medtech startups focusing on disease prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and wellness.

Supported by Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and Government of Telangana, Ojas MedTech Bio-NEST is expected to incubate up to 30 startups a year and significantly amplify CIE@IIITH’s recent endeavours around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other deep technologies.

Dr. Radha Rangarajan, Head, Innovation and Strategy at Ojas said, “Given the strengths of IIITH in deep tech areas such as computer vision, language technologies, signal processing and cognitive science, start-ups will find significant opportunities to collaborate and co-develop products with its faculty. In addition, the ecosystem of clinicians, life sciences researchers and investors associated with the Incubator, will enable faster product development.”

“Healthcare and wellness are very important areas for IIITH’s research vision and social impact. Ojas can play a critical role in taking our research and expertise in the labs to the society through startups. IIITH is excited about the future potential of this area,” said Prof P J Narayanan, Director, IIIT-Hyderabad.

IIIT-Hyderabad has recently completed the first anniversary of their AI/ML Executive Program, in association with TalentSprint. With 10,000+ applicants and 1000+ graduates in 2018 alone, the program has made its mark as one of the most aspirational and impactful deep tech executive programs in the country in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

In 2016, IIIT-Hyderabad, in partnership with 50K Ventures‬, had launched ‘Avishkar’ – a startup accelerator focused on technologies such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, augmented reality and virtual reality.
