Government of India, under its flagship ‘Start-up India’ initiative, has launched Swachch Bharat Grand Challenge to award innovative solutions from startups in the sectors of Sanitation, Waste Management, Water Treatment and Air Purification.

Observed by Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), under the aegis of the Swachchta Pakhwada fortnight (of Swachh Bharat Mission), the challenge is open to all DIPP Recognized Startups working in 4 focus sectors — Sanitation, Air Management, Waste Management, and Water & Waste water Management are invited to apply for the challenge till 10th November. Results will be announced on 15 November.

An evaluation committee will review the details filled in by the startups and would select top startups basis novelty of their solutions, scalability and impact potential. The top two chosen startups in each sector will be awarded cash prizes and certificates of excellence .

Cash prizes of total INR 12 Lakh will be awarded that include cash prizes for top two startups in each of the 4 below mentioned sectors.

Focus Sectors –

  1. Sanitation: Startups that focus on maintaining sanitation at public places by providing solutions to simple sanitation problems like open defecation, availability of toilets, etc. Solutions & systems for developing/improving access to sanitation in rural and urban areas
  2. > Waste Management: Startups focused on management of waste across the value chain including collection, disposal, processing and recycling into various forms
  3. > Water and Wastewater Management: Startups focused on managing water and wastewater resources including – developing systems for treatment of wastewater; generation, filtration, and purification systems to provide access to safe drinking water; and Smart Water Management solutions to manage water resources
  4. > Air Management: Startups involved in monitoring, controlling air pollution and/or purifying air.
