In November last year, we reported Intel’s launch of Compute Stick that transforms any screen into full blown computer or PC provided the screen has HDMI port. After seven months, this Intel thumbdrive is now available in India at price tag of Rs.9,999 only.
Intel’s Compute Stick is currently available on Flipkart @Rs.9,999 for Indian users to get hands on Intel’s latest innovation. This thumbdrive PC has been designed to plug into an HDMI port and works almost similar to Google’s famous Chromecast. The device is designed to plug into an HDMI port and connects to the internet via Wi-Fi technology and can be powered using a micro USB port. The device though looks like a dongle but is actually a full blown x86 Personal Computer.
Reportedly, its a smallest full-functional PC in the world supporting Windows 8.1 and Android.
Whether you’re at home or office, this Intel Compute Stick lets you stream media, edit photos or quickly access your saved files as long as there is an HDMI display at hand.
With Intel Compute Stick, you can transform your HDMI TV or monitor into a full computer and check emails, search the web or share your photos. You’ll need a wireless keyboard and mouse however. So, all you have to do is plug this compact device into the HDMI port of any TV or monitor, connect a wireless keyboard and mouse, and transform the TV or monitor into a fully, functional Windows 8.1-based computer.
Even though the device is small, it delivers a powerful performance with its Quad Core Intel Atom processor, 2 GB RAM, 32 GB storage and Windows 8.1 OS.
It has a USB 2.0 port for connecting peripherals and a micro SD card slot for additional storage. Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi enable wireless connectivity.
Although, there have been plenty of other USB dongles that have been launched in past most prominently Google Chromecast along with Microsoft Wireless Adapter and Mozilla Matchstick, and, but none these are bot full-functional PCs or computer and Intel’s Compute Stick could be the device to get considering the possibilities it can open up with respect to portability and connectivity options.
Interestingly, in April this year Google also launched a similar device called Google Chromebit which has the potential very much in conjunction to Intel’s Compute Stick, it also transform any HDMI portal device into a Google Chrome desktop PC in seconds or in other words it a dongle stick which turns any display device into a PC, exactly what Intel Compute Stick do except that it doesn’t have Windows 8.1 OS and works only as chromebook.
