On the onset of the Digital India campaign yesterday, NASSCOM has unveiled its plan to setup Centre of Excellence (CoE) for emerging Internet of Things (IoT) in India to enable rapid adoption of IoT technology. CoE will also function as skill development platform to build talent & instill a temper of research & development.
A Centre of Excellence for IoT wil be setup in city of Bengaluru and it will be a joint venture of Department of Electronics & IT (DeitY), Gov of India, Education & Research Network (ERNET) and Nasscom.
Centre of Excellence will be run on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model with seed fund from the government. and will be managed by Nasscom. The 40 seater CoE will be co-located with NASSCOM 1000 startUps warehouse, Bengaluru in partnership with Govt. of Karnataka. CoE will act as an innovation accelerator to explore product ideas & establish high end technologies.
CoE will also support govt. initiatives using IoT in areas like water, energy, agriculture, safety & health. Going forward, under Digital India initiative PM Modi also announced that the initiative aims to create a cluster of 5 Centre of Exellence across India.
Additionally, Indian government’s much anticipated smart city project and Digital India can also leverage IoT to bring about innovative application & domain capability across verticals.
