PathDoor is a medical website which helps you compare and book diagnostic lab tests in Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi at a discounted price, from the comfort of your home. It was started in Oct 2013 by Dr Ketan Jhunjhunwala, his wife Niharika Goel and Dr Kunal Patil. They offer pathology services at Doorstep, thus the name PathDoor. They collect blood samples from the patients place and send it to the lab where they want to analyze it.
“Being a doctor, I use to see the practical problems being faced by patients in every day testing and realized that there was a gap in terms of transparency in the pathology laboratory market in India,” says Ketan. Niharika had done an extensive survey with the pathology labs and patients and had very well figured the pain point. So they devised a solution to organize the path lab market in terms of increasing all round convenience for patients, providing a platform for rate comparison of tests between various path labs in their area, giving the best monetary rates possible for those tests and importantly collecting samples from the patients place.
“Our basic idea is to systematize the 1600cr lab market, which is currently plagued with lack of price transparency. For this purpose we have formed an interface between various pathology labs and patients in the form of a web portal and call to order telephone service,” says Kunal who is also and running company TechSplurge for about 5 years. The company headquarters is in Mumbai but are primarily working from Bangalore providing services in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi.
There are few diagnostic centers who have online existence and display their information but most diagnostic centers lack the online presence. As such there is no portal, which displays information all the laboratories in terms of the test they do, their rates, whether they have home collection facility, and what is the rate of that facility, whether they are accredited and basic precautions to be carried out during the test procedure. “Our company tries to solve these questions by helping patients know each and every detail about the test,” adds Niharika. They partner with pathology labs, diagnostic centers and are in the process of partnering with Health insurance companies.
With the use of API provided by Google Maps, they track the distance between various labs and patients address for home collection facilities. This team of 15 people wants to develop a concept of ‘single prick multiple lab testing’ where a patient from just a single prick by a technician can send his blood sample to be tested at multiple labs and get the best price. They are currently bootstrapped.
“I draw a lot of energy from my family members. In fact they are my mentors. They make it easy to handle PathDoor along with my PhD Thesis,” says Ketan. As a message for future entrepreneurs, they say, “Too much of analysis leads to paralysis”. This is something only a doctor can say! They advise us not to think too much before starting a venture and working dedicatedly towards it.
