BoxTV.com has been launched in India, lately by Times Internet Ltd, which is an online video service that offers premium content such as movies, television shows and short films. As of now the portal is in Alpha stage so one needs to apply for invite to start using the portal.
As per officials BoxTV.com, unlike to other video portals such as YouTube or Dailymotion which have UGC (User Generated Content) i.e. Videos, BoxTV.com will focus on premium content only. The Portal in addition to international content will have Indian content, like Bollywood films and other regional content in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati languages.
BoxTV has seen tie ups with ace film-based content providers such as – Sony, UTV, Zoom, Shemaroo, Rajshri and Lehren which already are ace content channels on YouTube. As of now BoxTV have 3,500 full-length films, more than 500 short films, and over 2,000 television episodes.
BoxTV will be available for Rs 199 a month in India and for US and UK premium users will have to pay $4.99 and £4.99, respectively. However, free users will get access to limited content unlike to paid subscribers.
The portal will be accessible on multiple platforms as well such as smartphones, iPhone, iPad and Android devices, tablets and even on TV-connected platforms like Roku.
