Few students from IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IT BHU and Patnagar University have launched the first ever private e-counseling portal of Uttrakhand, named Uktech.info. The iniative is taken to provide proper guideline to the aspiring students with college reviews, rankings, branches details and various inspiring articles.

The newly introduced web portal was launched by vice chancellor of Patnagar University, Dr. B S Bisht. He stated,

uktech.info is a very useful portal and I am sure will be very helpful to the students who are looking for admission in engineering colleges. I compliment students for their effort.

Raghav Kansal, the leader of the project said that the website will help the student take better choices regarding their career, free of cost.

As the state AIEEE counseling is about to start, Uktech.info can be of great value to the students as it also gives the opportunity to students to interact with the active college students.

People in foreign countries still perceive India as a low-level IT nation and Indians as mere low-level computer programmers, database administrators just capable of updating the web portals, or a call center worker. However, Indian Technology sector has changed drastically and made an astounding leap in the sophisticated areas of Research & Development. BlacMail is a new push email mobile application launched by Bangalore based mobile applications startup Fifth C , the mobile app is a push email mobile application enables low-end ordinary phones to send and receive mails and that’s too without having GPRS as one would normally need to get connected with internet. The app provides low-end mobile users to have email send-receive feature similar to that of smart phones or PDAs such as BlackBerry or Nokia E63.

BlacMail allows users to access their mails through any GSM network on their cell phones anywhere in India be it Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or even your company/ corporate emails.

Difference that this mobile app making is – Unlike to other ‘pull email’ based applications available in the market, BlacMail is based over ‘push email’ application that pushes mails to the user’s phone as soon as they land in the user’s email inbox. Therefore, BlacMail only alerts your phone and you when an unread email from your internet account is pushed to it. While other services of the similar kind pull an email to your phone by frequently checking your internet mail accounts for unread mails unnecessarily draining your phone battery life.

Available for free trial download BlacMail is at present available only in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad and also at all UniverCell outlets. However the company is negotiating with a top operator in India for release of BlacMail across India soon.

The paid version of this mobile email app is subcription service based on credit system that needs to be purchased for mobile service providers (UniverCell outlet as of now).

Coming to the features the on demand option allows users to get mails only when they want it, and the mail download size option enables them to control the size of mails, thereby saving the user’s credits. Another feature that empowers users to control their credits is the white-list option. It white-lists domains,sites or email addresses that user wants to receive mails from, and filters out all other unwanted domains, thus reducing spam and keeping the user’s inbox clean.

The phrase “24 hours loot” says it all. It has something to do with shopping. To be more precise, it is an Internet retailer focussed towards Indian public. It is a complete replica of one of the most popular online retailer, the Woot.

If you ever think that why Google, Yahoo, Microsoft or even Twitter is not from India despite the fact that most of these big brands are backed by mind,mentors or tech-forces of India only than the answers is – ‘?’…yes its the big question mark on all of us living in India as workforce, employees,Techpreneurs or even the CEO of any company that why the best minds in India always chose to go away and create the master piece out of India rather than in India (being Indian). Some frustrated techie-Indian answered me that – “Its better to be Brain-Drain than to be a Brain in Drain”.

Recently Sarah Lacy a blogger from famous TechCrunch interviewed N.R. Narayana Murthy the first person we can comfortably honor him bringing in tech revolution in India and able to list the company in NASDAQ as first from India. Murthy commented on Infrastructure in India as bad and rather deceptive than being effective. He added that – “In China, they chose to emphasize giving people economic freedom first and political freedom second and India chosen the opposite path.”

China currently has over 200 million entrepreneurs and it houses 200 venture capital firms comparing to some handful in India. Recent hype in India that we all know and some of you might even fond of is – IPL Cricket backed by our own politicians, MPs, some businessmen and even actors poured in river of money for just a “Game” of Cricket (that sarcastically beating the ‘Game of Life’ ..). The IPL is listed as World’s Hottest League by Forbes and get bids of nice 711.47 million US Dollars (Rs.3,235 crore) just for two new teams and 627.46 Million US Dollars (Rs.2,853 crore) already been bid out for rest of the teams. IPL do have a full support of very nice people whom I don’t know personally but believe me they are very nice – Sharad Pawar, India’s Minister of Agriculture and Rajeev Shukla TV-anchor turned Minister of Parliament.

It feels too good when it comes to cricket that India is not that inferior in infrastructure and funds, so much money pouring in and out this season, BCCI as richest board in the world and all that.

One more unfortunate incident – India’s state Uttar Pradesh’s Honorable Chief Minister Sushri Shrimati Mayawati had come into attack from her enemies when she presented a rally which was reportedly cost mere 38.4 US million dollar (Rs 175 crore) of public money and a clean, beautiful garland of 5.4 million US Dollars (Rs 25 core) made of 1,000-rupee notes India currency.

That’s ridiculous allegation because she was so fair lady doing so much for her state and an entrepreneur must learn from her how to bring in money for your own good no matter how you do it because what matters at the end of the day is – damn important funds. (Think Positive, you know.)

There’s is so much money in India not if we see this time around but always atleast that much that we can comfortably cover our heads being the one of the most populated country. The efforts has to be made on which direction is money is going, how much productive and how can it multiple our economic freedom not just for tech-startup or entrepreneur perspective but in every means.

Kolkata based InfoSoft Global has released a PowerPoint add-in called oomfo to add visual effects, charts, interactivity and animation from a simple GUI within PowerPoint. oomfo is powered by FusionCharts, an open source data visualization app for web applications.

As the visualization done is on top of flash technology omfo requires Adobe Flash Player 8 or above to view the chart, presently in beta its totally free and supports Microsoft Office 2003, 2007 and 2010. The company plans to release the add-in app in standard and premium version and later being the paid one.

oomfo provides the ease to build animations, charts, data visualization as very easy GUI and within the PowerPoint which is as far as I can see the only product vailable for free so far with these kind of features, however RichChartLive is one other free product but lacks far more features, stunning visuals and crispier animation & visualization that ommfo does.

SimplyBooks.in is a new book portal launched today in World Book Fair’10, New Delhi. As the name hints the portal is online bookshop targeting Indian customers initially and at moment in beta stage. Simplybooks is launched by startup based in Gurgaon, India that also runs a Finance community portal called feeleminds.com

The portal carries the same traits and features like to those online bookshop already exist in market however some features and an impressive UI which is comparatively far better than Indian books portal we see such as Rediff books, Indiatimes, flipkart.com etc.  The portal carries features such as book search – by author, category, book title etc. The portal also offer related products such as CDs, Magazines and Journals in one domain as I dont see any one portal in India which provide all of these.

Keeping in mind the beta stage of portal Simplybooks.in looks promising in terms of number of books, user interface and more web 2.0 features than any existing in Indian market except that of flipkart.com. Morever, the entry of one more online bookshop portal will make the stagnant online book selling market to rise above, if changes due to competition is considered.

The Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Bombay organizing an event called Vulture’s Nest part of Entrepreneurship Summit 2010 which is first event of its kind in the history of Indian entrepreneurship. Its uniqueness comes from its express funding concept and it’s format as a reality show to be aired on ET Now channel starting January 2010.

In the event plus realty show those who are on verge of building any potential start-ups and having one or more business plans with themselves than after selection phase they will have to pitch their ideas to a panel of investors including top VCs in 15 minutes and if they like the idea than participants might get an on-spot express funding.

ET Now would be airing all three strategic events on a segmented basis on their show starting up in January next year.

Vultures nest is a three phase event. The first phase is an online submission of the presentation starting 10 Dec.’09 to 4th Jan.’10.
