I personally do not like to go to twitter.com for knowing updates. Rather, I prefer a desktop Twitter client like TweetDeck. And why not, I get a better interface there with better options and easy access. It has different column for different task, be it direct messages, mentions or simple tweets. Recently while browsing the internet, I came across an interesting web based Twitter client known as Multwiple, which provides an interface very similar to what TweetDeck does.

One great feature of Multwiple is the support of multiple Twitter accounts. Here, you not even have to switch from one account to another; all the accounts will be displayed in separate column. As Multwiple is free and web based Twitter client, you do not have to download it unlike TweetDeck, you just have to sign in with your Twitter account.

As soon as you log in to the Multwiple, you will see an interface comprising of three columns including home, direct messages and mentions. On the right side, you will the statistics indicating your followers, following and tweets. On the left side of the Multwiple interface, we see a lot of new options like retweeted by me, retweeted to me, favourites, tell your friends in addition to  home, direct messages, mentions, people you follow etc.

In the home interface, as soon as you hover the mouse over a message, three small icons will appear which will allow you to reply, retweet or send a direct message. Another cool aspect about Multwiple is that it opens the link in a new tab with the original tweet present on the top of the page, which provides you ease of retweeting it later on.

Overall, Multwiple seems to be an excellent feature rich web based Twitter client.

The retweet button will be available in 3 different form factors with different settings. The first one is of size 110 x 20mm, having counter as well along with horizontal display. The second type is of dimension 55 x 20mm, horizontal display, without count and the third type of retweet button has the dimension of 55 x 63mm with vertical display and counter. You can see the exact dimension of the retweet buttons in the image below.

Embedding the official retweet button in your blog or website is pretty simple. You just have to embed the code, which is given in both JavaScript and iFrrame format. However, currently it won`t be working. The official retweet button may come within the end of this week.

However, after the image is being uploaded, it goes down in the twitter database and it is very difficult to search for that image after a longer duration.

Twtimage is a newly introduced web service which lets you search images from Twitter by fetching images from twitpic.com, tweetphoto.com, img.ly and yfrog.com. Once you come to Twtimage homepage, you will see a textbox at the top right corner. You have to enter the keyword for the images to be searched. A list of 25 images will be displayed in one go. If you want to see further, you will have to click on the “load more” link.

In the picture below, you can see the list of images displayed under the keyword iphone that were uploaded on the Twitter. The images on the front page may change according to recent uploads.

In addition, Twtimage homepage also has the list of most popular tags. If you want you can click on these tags. On clicking, it will redirect you to the original source of image. You can then download the images effortlessly. Another positive aspect about the site is that you do not have to sign in. Hence, it is completely free.

As a result of Twtimage, Searching images on Twitter can no longer be difficult and tiresome. It is indeed an effective internet tool for searching images on Twitter.

Few days back, Sherlyn had  undergone a photo-shoot. Thereafter  she posted these images on her  twitter

After some days, Sherlyn found  tweeting

Where has my pic  disappeared!!! This is strange!  Can Twitter kindly let me know  where my pics are? Is there a  censor board on Twitter?

After coming to know that her photos were deliberately deleted by Twitter and that she has been banned from posting images, she further replied stating,

Is there no freedom of expression anymore? My images are sensual, not suggestive. I’m an Indian and I shall not do anything that goes against my ethos

Twitter has banned me from uploading pics…My Team is trying 2 get in touch with Twitter to sort out the matter.

Sherlyn also said that she will quit Twitter if the problem persists. Noticeably, Sherlyn Chopra become the first Indian Celebrity to get banned by Twitter.

In my previous post, I presented some of the problems that Twitter is facing. However, Twitter is moving ahead, now it will soon be using t.co as its URL shortner. Thus a long link such as http://www.amazon.com/Delevering-Happiness-Profits-Passion-Purpose/dp/0446563048 will be wrapped to http://t.co/DRo0trj .

All the t.co based links will be of fixed 20 characters. However, the best part is the link t.co will let you know where the links are going. This is possible because Twitter is including metadata with each tweet.

Another positive effect that it will add to Twitter is that it will reduce the spam. It does it as it observes the distribution of each link and warns the uses if it considers the link malicious.

The introduction of t.co might cause problems for bit.ly. It will be intersting to see how bit.ly will compete with t.co.

To cope up with this, Twitter has now nearly doubled its employee list. Currently, its staff members are more than 200 in numbers. The increase in advertisement via various Twitter apps and web services has attracted a lot of audience towards it. The latest stats show that about 190 million people have maintained their account at Twitter. To add to the stats, on an average around 65 million tweets are posted every day. Just imagine the situation when a global event like WWDC is on the process.

Another topic, which is being raised these days, is related to Twitter Overcapacity issue. Quite often, when Twitter is unable to handle the Tweets, we get the following message.

Twitter is Overcapacity. Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again

However, this problem gets resolved within five to ten minutes, but if it comes repeatedly, then it can be a lot irritating.
Seeing the popularity of Twitter, we hope it continues to serve for a longer period. We do not want it go down so frequently.

There is an easier alternative in this regard which is brought up by a recently launched web-app. The idea on which this web-app is based on is awesome and revolutionary.

Twiup.com is a web-app that lets you find and discover relevant people who have similar interests as of yours by just browsing a directory at Twiup.com. You can easily discover people you really want to follow.

To get started with Twiup, all you need to do is just login in your twitter account using Oauth method and allow access to the application. Moreover, to find people of your likes you just need enter few tags or keywords that suits to your interest the best and rest is done by twiup, it will perform the time consuming search for you and then allow you to take actions and select people you would like to follow. This web-app also allows you to find the most influential people in the respective field you are looking for on the basis of what people have voted.

As everything has its pros and cons so this web-app also has. I have already pointed out the pros. The cons are that, this web-service is not free and according to me $8 per month is bit high for this service. The directory it filters out as per your tags is not up to the mark as it doesn’t shows the most influential people, at least for now, obviously it may show up when the all the people will join it.

However, the idea behind the service is good and can do better in future, if implemented in a planned way.

Here`s what Twitter has to say regarding its new algorithm:
“The new algorithm identifies topics that are immediately popular, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis, to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world. (We had previously built in this ‘emergent’ algorithm for all local trends, described below.) We think that trending topics which capture the hottest emerging trends and topics of discussion on Twitter are the most interesting.”

The algorithm is currently in progress so there might be still certain bugs. However, on a big run, it has a lot to do with Twitter`s success and its users.

Meanwhile, having heard the news about Twitter`s new algorithm, Justin Beiber`s fan are constantly tweeting and saying that, “it’s not his fault, he is a great personality and therefore he was always in trending topic”.
