As per Google India blog, an interesting fact is that, out of the 4 million monthly Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) search queries on Google worldwide, more than 1 million searches happen from countries like Germany, Finland, Malaysia and other Middle East nations. Therefore, being the 1st verified celebrity on Google+, noticeably the verfication just happen when SRK is all set to release his own home production large budget movie Ra.One, which already being promoted as dedicated channel on YouTube for proos and songs clips.

More interestingly, as per web analytics company Comscore India is second largest user of Google+. Web-traffic watcher company comScore estimated that Google has had 20 million users, including 5 million users from US and 2.85 million users from India in its early beta stage.

Apart from SRK, number of celeberities and known personalities has been listed as verified users out of India, so as to mark the genuinity of the respective profiles.

However, the Google India’s just-in-time move to promote verified celebs in India and that’s too of Indian movies personality who himself is proactive in propagating a movie of his, sees to be more of a marketing strategy rather than Google’s own step.

Just like you provide invitation in Gmail or any other social networking sites, you can also invite your friends in Facebook. If you have been doing this over a while, then have you wondered how many friends have you invited so far. Well, now if you feel like knowing the number of friends that you have invited, visit the facebook.com/impact page.

On this page, you will know the number of invitees that you have sent after joining Facebook. Apart from this, you can also come to know the most number of friends invited by your friends.

Though, I feel that there is no practical implication of this page. However, it can obviously be viewed, just for fun.

In my previous post, I presented some of the problems that Twitter is facing. However, Twitter is moving ahead, now it will soon be using t.co as its URL shortner. Thus a long link such as http://www.amazon.com/Delevering-Happiness-Profits-Passion-Purpose/dp/0446563048 will be wrapped to http://t.co/DRo0trj .

All the t.co based links will be of fixed 20 characters. However, the best part is the link t.co will let you know where the links are going. This is possible because Twitter is including metadata with each tweet.

Another positive effect that it will add to Twitter is that it will reduce the spam. It does it as it observes the distribution of each link and warns the uses if it considers the link malicious.

The introduction of t.co might cause problems for bit.ly. It will be intersting to see how bit.ly will compete with t.co.

To cope up with this, Twitter has now nearly doubled its employee list. Currently, its staff members are more than 200 in numbers. The increase in advertisement via various Twitter apps and web services has attracted a lot of audience towards it. The latest stats show that about 190 million people have maintained their account at Twitter. To add to the stats, on an average around 65 million tweets are posted every day. Just imagine the situation when a global event like WWDC is on the process.

Another topic, which is being raised these days, is related to Twitter Overcapacity issue. Quite often, when Twitter is unable to handle the Tweets, we get the following message.

Twitter is Overcapacity. Too many tweets! Please wait a moment and try again

However, this problem gets resolved within five to ten minutes, but if it comes repeatedly, then it can be a lot irritating.
Seeing the popularity of Twitter, we hope it continues to serve for a longer period. We do not want it go down so frequently.

Clearspring along with Google,Microsoft and LinkedIn introduced an open web sharing protocol – OExchange to establish a common way for services to receive, discover and share content to social media sharing services and how sharing tools can read and set a user’s sharing preferences.This open web sharing protocol actually established a interoperability into social web to offer links to sharing services and for sharing services to design their API endpoints.

Digg, Delicious, Stumbleupon, Postereous and every such social media service has a different integration scheme and providing access to all these services is difficult through one party tool or so using third party tools such as AddThis etc. OExchange solves this problem by defining an open protocol for third party sharing tools to discover and send content to these services.

This open web sharing protocol is already got support from Google (Google Buzz), Microsoft, LinkedIn, Digg, StumbleUpon, Echo, Instapaper, Posterous, PrintFriendly, Springpad, Webs and yfrog (Imageshack). Moreover, Google Buzz and Instapaper are the first such service to have got OExchange protocol implemented.

OExchange provides a simple and common for all integration method for publisher to get their URI/ Links to be shared on social media services supporting OExchange. For social media services the protocol provides a more discoverable and thats too by visitors own choice. A discovery generator tool has been provided by OExchnage for easy implementation of protocols for existing or new social media & sharing services.

Currently if someone in Pakistan tries to access Facebook.com, they encounter a message saying “ The site is restricted”.
On Tuesday, six young IT professionals from Lahore launched millatfacebook which will not only serve the purpose of staying in touch with family and friends but will also serve as a platform for Muslim`s to serve against blasphemy.

As of now, about 5000 users have signed up with over 1500 photos uploaded. Mostly these people are from Pakistan. Currently the site stands nowhere as compared to Facebook, thought it has some similar features like wall, findfriends, etc. The inclusion of Facebook like apps in Millatfacebook will take some substantial amount of time.
Millatfacebook has some interesting features as well. One of it is Photo Battle which allows you to view random photos of other members and decide the best of the lot. It also has ‘featured members tab’ and ‘top rated members’

The front page of Millatfacebook encourages all the religion and caste to join it`s community. It says

Here`s what Twitter has to say regarding its new algorithm:
“The new algorithm identifies topics that are immediately popular, rather than topics that have been popular for a while or on a daily basis, to help people discover the ‘most breaking’ breaking news from across the world. (We had previously built in this ‘emergent’ algorithm for all local trends, described below.) We think that trending topics which capture the hottest emerging trends and topics of discussion on Twitter are the most interesting.”

The algorithm is currently in progress so there might be still certain bugs. However, on a big run, it has a lot to do with Twitter`s success and its users.

Meanwhile, having heard the news about Twitter`s new algorithm, Justin Beiber`s fan are constantly tweeting and saying that, “it’s not his fault, he is a great personality and therefore he was always in trending topic”.

Morever ASSOCHAM survey  in a press release says – Almost each day, an average corporate employee spends an hour, gluing to various social networking sites such as Orkut, Facebook, Myspace, Linkdein etc. for ‘romancing‘ or otherwise drive some satisfaction out of it…with this average corporate employee’s each day working is reduced by an hour from 8 hours to 7 hours.

Young professionals join the social networking sites the most. It also reveals that 93% of youngsters are aware of social networking sites. Orkut and Facebook are found to be the most popular online destinations among survey respondents. 73% of aged 45-58 spend over an hour online daily to use online sources to access news.

On the other on same note and on same day an interesting reports by CII (Confederation of Indian Industries) says that growth momentum of the services sector in India has increased during April–October 2009, compared to the same period during 2008. If one has to go by ASSOCHAM than productivity has already been lost than how can the same sector is showing growth without productivity of their employees. Two reports by two different ace business & commerce bodies in India and so much in contrast to each other.

Here ASSOCHAM is getting hypothetical as at least in software, web or even marketing sector employees are working for more than 8 hours each day officially and might even go beyond that unofficially. So, one hour less because of  social networking which is bringing productivity down is somehow hypothetical. Each day if one hour is getting less in employees working hours than how much “extra-hours” are being included should have been in the survey.

Morever, ASSOCHAM used word “Romancing” as reason for social networking surfing, Unaware of the fact that online activities such as online news reading through live feeds as in facebook,twitter etc., professional networking and job hunting through these Pro-networking sites and blogging are rising in India more than just one reason of “romancing” on social networking sites.

The above findings of ASSOCHAM are arrived at a random survey, carried out by the ASSOCHAM Social Development Foundation (ASDF) in which nearly 4000 corporate employees were interviewed between age group ranging from 21-30, 31-45 and 46 -60 years in metros and towns such as Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Cochin, Indore, Ahemdabad, Surat, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Luckow and Kanpur.

Interestingly the reports also shows some very positive aspects of India’s online activities such as writing blogs, using micr-blogging services, uploading videos and photos where it leads most countries (user volume in millions) like UK, Germany, Australia, Italy, France, Germany and Japan. Moreover, when it comes to percentage of total online users – More people in India write their own blogs and use Micro-blogging services in India than US.
