Founded in year 2000, One97 is a delhi based mobile internet services company offering its services for consumers in India and delivers mobile content, advertising and commerce services to mobile consumers. One97 is the largest private independent provider of telecom managed value added services in India. Earlier the company has also got fundings from others investors ranging from Intel Capital, SAIF Partners and Silicon Valley Bank.

The founder of One97, Vijay Shekhar Sharma is an engineer, who belongs to town Aligarh, he has started first business venture XS Corps, a web solutions firm while he was in third year off his engineering. The start-up was later sold to US based technology firm Lotus Interworks in 1999. Afterwards he also worked togather with Bhari Airel as VAS (value added service) partner. In 2004-2005, his revenue was Rs 7 crore per year and than in 2005-06, he earned Rs 11 crore and in 2006-07, he acquired Positive Consol, a data services company in Noida, India. One97 is now a INR 250 crore company i.e. around USD$ 2.5 billion dollar revenue per year.

SAP ventures has also invested in JustDial, iYogi, Connectiva and Newgen among which are among SAP’s Indian portfolio companies. SAP venture is more keen on companies based in US, Europe, India, Brazil and China.

SiteOnMobile, is the online service by HP Labs India, though it is in invitation only and alpha mode and works in a defines way, as – Select your most accessed content on web -> SiteOnMobile package them as widgets – > Your web content is now accessible on mobiles and landline. On mobile its works through SMS and voice channel and on landline phones it works through voice channel.

This new technology by HP Labs however comes with few constraints as you cannot access all web content as it has to be optimized first though SiteOnMobile service and than after being optimized as packaged web content it can be viewed. The service is free of cost excluding the SMS charges of respective  telecom operators service charges where it is being used. Although, website owners can make their websites optimized for this service without any cost.

Tagged as alpha release, the full fledged service is yet to be start soon, as apparent SiteOnMobile is not currently open for end-users to use on mobile & landlines and service is currently seems to be for website owners to be optimized for same for free. Nevertheless, the service by HP Labs India is yet another nice effort coming out of India comfortably tagged as ‘products/ technologies for masses‘ for countries like India where broadband or even internet is limited to few percentage of population.

Syniverse is a business and technology solution for the global telecommunications industry, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, USA the company was awarded a letter of intent to provide India’s telecommunications operators with number portability clearing house and centralized database solutions for the next 10 years.

Telcordia on other hand is the world’s leading provider of MNP services and has solutions deployed across nine countries, including the US, Canada, Egypt, Greece and South Africa.

Because of the project’s enormous scale, the DoT divided the country into two geographic zones for number portability implementation, each of which will be handled by a different MNP provider. Each zone is further broken down into 11 service areas that represent cities within the zone. Zone 1 will cover the northern and western regions of the country, while Zone 2 will include the south and east.

Syniverse was selected to receive the license for Zone 1, which includes the service areas of Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Gujarat and seven others. The MNP implementation will first focus on the larger metropolitan service areas before moving into the more rural locations.

As an operator-neutral third party, Syniverse will maintain an accurate, rapid and seamless number porting process for both Indian operators and their subscribers, facilitating the transfer of telephone numbers when subscribers wish to keep their numbers when changing from one operator to another.
