Founded in year 2000, One97 is a delhi based mobile internet services company offering its services for consumers in India and delivers mobile content, advertising and commerce services to mobile consumers. One97 is the largest private independent provider of telecom managed value added services in India. Earlier the company has also got fundings from others investors ranging from Intel Capital, SAIF Partners and Silicon Valley Bank.

The founder of One97, Vijay Shekhar Sharma is an engineer, who belongs to town Aligarh, he has started first business venture XS Corps, a web solutions firm while he was in third year off his engineering. The start-up was later sold to US based technology firm Lotus Interworks in 1999. Afterwards he also worked togather with Bhari Airel as VAS (value added service) partner. In 2004-2005, his revenue was Rs 7 crore per year and than in 2005-06, he earned Rs 11 crore and in 2006-07, he acquired Positive Consol, a data services company in Noida, India. One97 is now a INR 250 crore company i.e. around USD$ 2.5 billion dollar revenue per year.

SAP ventures has also invested in JustDial, iYogi, Connectiva and Newgen among which are among SAP’s Indian portfolio companies. SAP venture is more keen on companies based in US, Europe, India, Brazil and China.

This is one of a milestone for any startup across the globe and that’s too in short span of time of just 4 years. InMobi has been valued at least $800 million and one of the first product company in India that has climbed so far breaking the ice that India’s is only dependent to technogy service based companies.

Noticeably, InMobi is India’s biggest mobile advertising network and second biggest in the world and Google being on top with its recently aquired product AdMob. InMobi nearly has 47 billion monthly impressions combined on mobile apps and mobile websites whereas Google’s AdMob has 86 billion impressions per month.

Navin Tewari, Founder and CEO of the company’s is a IIT Kanpur engineer graduate, who started the company from scratch and partnred with four of his collegeous and friends. In 2007 the idea of mobile ad network ignited in their mind, keeping in the mind the fact that each and very people are carrying the mobile in their pockets.

InMobi is one of the first product based startup in India who have reached to such an extent in terms of geographical reach, monetary value and impact in such a short time. Rumours are on that Google is eyeing the company to acquire as its the closest competitor to Google mobile advertising.

TechCrunch had an interview with the founder CEO of the company Navin Tewari (below), although the interview was taken in 2010 the business he talked about have accoplished indeed within a year.

SiteOnMobile, is the online service by HP Labs India, though it is in invitation only and alpha mode and works in a defines way, as – Select your most accessed content on web -> SiteOnMobile package them as widgets – > Your web content is now accessible on mobiles and landline. On mobile its works through SMS and voice channel and on landline phones it works through voice channel.

This new technology by HP Labs however comes with few constraints as you cannot access all web content as it has to be optimized first though SiteOnMobile service and than after being optimized as packaged web content it can be viewed. The service is free of cost excluding the SMS charges of respective  telecom operators service charges where it is being used. Although, website owners can make their websites optimized for this service without any cost.

Tagged as alpha release, the full fledged service is yet to be start soon, as apparent SiteOnMobile is not currently open for end-users to use on mobile & landlines and service is currently seems to be for website owners to be optimized for same for free. Nevertheless, the service by HP Labs India is yet another nice effort coming out of India comfortably tagged as ‘products/ technologies for masses‘ for countries like India where broadband or even internet is limited to few percentage of population.

BlacMail allows users to access their mails through any GSM network on their cell phones anywhere in India be it Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or even your company/ corporate emails.

Difference that this mobile app making is – Unlike to other ‘pull email’ based applications available in the market, BlacMail is based over ‘push email’ application that pushes mails to the user’s phone as soon as they land in the user’s email inbox. Coming to the features the on demand option allows users to get mails only when they want it, and the mail download size option enables them to control the size of mails, thereby saving the user’s credits. Another feature that empowers users to control their credits is the white-list option. It white-lists domains,sites or email addresses that user wants to receive mails from, and filters out all other unwanted domains, thus reducing spam and keeping the user’s inbox clean.

In Airtel app store 25% of the apps are free to download and rest are subscription based, however, unlike to the beliefs the Indian mobile consumers are willing to pay for mobile apps as top 5 mobile apps downloaded are subscription based and not free, moreover top 5 cities that lead the download location are small cities ather than metros, these are – Surat, Pune, Udaipur, Mangalore and Thiruvanathapuram.The most popular apps downloaded are falling in social networking and utility categories.

Airtel is leading mobile service provider in India with ustomer base of over 118 million and Airtel app store have 1500 apps available for download among which 25% of the apps are free to download and app available for across 550+ devices.

Noticeably unlike to Apple iPhone Google Nexus is “Unlocked” GSM phone sold and shipped by Google only.

Moreover, unavailability of 3G Mobile technology in India could be strong reason for Nexus phone unavailability, as at present its with BSNL only. Ironically, countries like UK had already made trials of next generation 4G mobile broadband technology.

Question – Why Google didn’t approach BSNL? as its also 3G and GSM phone operator in India.

However, India has its own Jugaad of getting Google Nexus by – shipping it to India (US$529 + $60 shipping + import duty = 32k INR approx.) or can also get it from ebay once people people start to resale it.
