Google News Added Tamil as new Language

Categories: Google, Web 2.0 India
Written By: Vardaan

Google has finally added the one of the most widely spoken language in India & Shri Lanka – Tamil, Google news in Tamil has been released on 6th August and will index news and stories from number of Tamil news sources and will present in different sections.

Google News Blog apparently feels that including Tamil in Google news is far much important for Google to do so, as it says -

t’s not every day that you get to launch a product in a more than 2,000-year-old language spoken by more than 70 million people. That’s why we’re excited to tell you that Google News is now available in Tamil.

Additionally one can see separate local sections for Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, where large number of Tamilians reside. This second Indian spoken language Google has released Google News in, after Hindi as their very first, however there are many more to be included in future, I feel.

Moreover, Google has suggested to web publishers to use Unicode based UTF-8 standard to avoid the issues that rise up while picking up content from these news sources.
