RSS Awareness Day

Today along with World Labor Day we are also noticed RSS Awareness Day , a part of what is called web 2.0 era of web, RSS abbreviated as Really Simple Syndication, i.e to propagate the content through feeds(RSS file format) so as to let the content travel through out the vast wide web rather than to keep the content (information) stagnant on a site.

RSS is revolutionary technology that bring us the way to keep up the flow of information in simple yet effective way which otherwise would have eaten the plenty of time of any internet users in search of information/ content and stranded in middle of vast internet realm.

Ironically, RSS (abbr. as Really Simple Syndication) doesn’t seem to be simple for itself otherwise, people would have used this technology in large, which is why stats show (according to PEW) only 5% users uses RSS aggregaters or XML readers to get the content/ information delivered to them, in 2005. The stats, at present doesn’t get good, still its same.

May it lacks the ergonomic feature that users are looking for to keep RSS in line with other web 2.0 features that are ramping up without celebrating a “web 2.0 day”. Why RSS fails to make a grip when it comes to became handy among common internet users, suggest via comments and do comment if you use any RSS aggreagator or Reader and how frequently?

I have started to use RSS using Google Reader only recently. One of the main reasons for the late adoption was the fact that I was not aware of how RSS readers like Google Reader work. Moreover, in most of the sites you get a RSS icon with subscribe written and when you click on it to subscribe you get a XML document. This to the common user does not make sense IMO.

I use Subscribe option built within Firefox browser and to some extent Google reader..and thats too seldom…for me i feel too messy to go to any RSS readers (Online readers) and then sig-in..wait and than subscribe…better to have put it in my browser in an instant
