One thing in India that one doesn’t have to speculate about, is growing popularity and fans of game of Cricket. The recent IPL tournament (Indian Premier League) organized in India in analogy with European Football league tournaments is latest buzz and more than a hype in India these days.
The popularity of IPL tournament has inspired a lot of webmasters, bloggers to launch websites, blogs specially for the tournament and matches updates, recently a Social networking website has been launched and no doubt the traffic shoots to the moon. The website TheIPLFanClub.com a social network for IPL fans to show their passion for their respective favorite teams.
The traits of social networking for TheIPLFanClub.com is - any user of website can publish their news from their local newspaper provided they must mention the name of newspaper, scan the newspaper images and upload, create a their blog, groups, invite friends etc., a more participation in the website leads the user to win contest, by scoring points for their each activity on the website.
The most interesting part in this website is the amount of traffic it got in just a month of its launch, the same amount of traffic has been desired by few startups in India for their non-cricket theme and some of them had even end up dead for not getting desired traffic leading to less or no ROI (will be covering the startups that has been shutdown with reasonably good themes in my coming posts). As for now take a look at the Alexa traffic graph of the TheIPLFanClub.com and recently launched Gaadi.com with different theme other than cricket and clearly here its ramping traffic line in an interval of April-May 2008 is reasonably higher than the later website with gaadi.com being launched much earlier than TheIPLFanClub.com site. The reason - no web 2.0 or 3.0, rich media experience but the theme - its cricket.

The Alexa rankings definitely rose up the amazing way.
