Indiamarks.com a site revamped from a bookmarking model to user generated content

Social Bookmarking to artcles/Content basedIndiamarks.com which once happened to be a Indian based social bookmarking & tagging site has totally revamped and overhauled to new look and model, which now serves quality based content rather than bookmarked links and content itself would be user generated in form of guides created by users.

Indiamarks.com has just gone live with an effort to build more India centric content which is interesting and relevant. Indiamarks.com - a website from a pune based startup was supposed to be bookmarking site since year 2006 or one can see how this site looks like previoulsy in Aug 2006, the site was apparently said to be Indian based bookmarking site where user could do all that bookmarking/ digg like acivities (sharing with friends, tagging resources etc.) and the site was more like technology centric but less on India.

The site took a revamp act this month to a new model where user can generate quality and relevant articles/ guides and post it on, the website has emphasized a lot on quality and relevancy factor for any content that would be posted on site and must be India centric only unlike to is previous avatar, so much so that it even talked about suspending/ deleting accounts of users who try to posts blatantly irrelevant and spam content on site.

Moreover, one can even earn money by posting affiliate links under their own guides/ articles posted in Indiamarks.com, but it still depends much on how many daily page views would Indiamarks.com gets itself vis-a-vis its user generated content pages which in turn create revenue for its users for their posted content.

However, so much of emphasize on India centric quality/ relevant content is one thing I would look forward to, as its indeed a fact to some extent, the content/ guides in Indiamarks do talk about only India specific topics in more than 25 categories such as business, sports, technology, travel etc., and tagging still there to browse content through it.

The need for such overhaul where a site took a U-turn to revamp its model from a social bookmarking/ tagging site to user generated content is a glimpse of how web models such as bookmarking is not made for India or one has to be more diverse and in terms of varieties of topics that would be posted as bookmarks which in turn, to some extent is not in hands of startups running the website, however the ease with which user can bookmark their resources is one factor that could decide the success probability.

The only success that could be counted in Indian bookmarking scenario is Indiapad.com and newscola.com from ibibo which too is not much diverse and lacks that punch of quality that other global bookmarking brands - Digg, reddit, del.icio.us has reason being serving limited topics from users or whatever, having only Bollywood, hindi movies and little of other topics resulting.
